After a late night, I slept in until the last possible minute today, quickly packed all of my things, and got ready for our bus ride to Assisi.

Overall today was very relaxed. Assisi is a beautiful city. We were given a few hours of free time to do whatever we wanted.

Victoria and I headed to eat first. We ate at a cafeteria-style restaurant. It wasn’t awful, but probably was the worst food I’ve had since getting here. Maybe that’s just my opinion, or maybe that’s just me being bitter for accidentally consuming meat. That’s the hardest part about being in a foreign country where you really don’t know the language. It’s hard to read signs and you just have to assume what you’re getting, and sometimes it’s not what you expect.

Vic and I walked around for a little bit, checking out the sights. I ran into a gift shop quickly, more or less just to prove I was there. My family collects magnets and I have one from basically anywhere I’ve ever traveled, so Assisi was no different.

We spent the rest of our free time sitting at an overlook, just chatting. It was relaxing and definitely just what I needed. Assisi is exactly what I thought Italy would look like. It was almost right out of a fairytale… or off of a postcard.

Our group met up and then headed on a walking tour of the area and Basilica of St. Frances. From learning what we did, it was obvious the ways that St. Frances impacted the area.

Matteo set up a surprise wine tasting for us, which was interesting, to say the least. One of the owners of the shop was super passionate about what she does. They served various cheeses and wines for us to sample. I ended up not buying anything just because I didn’t want to drag it all home, but from what I tasted, each was delicious.

Our group headed to dinner after the wine tasting. Again, I don’t think you can have a bad meal in Italy. Everything seems to be so delicious, or at least the food that I’ve consumed over the past few days. Tonight’s dinner was a mix of things, from pasta to bruschetta to potatoes, and they were all amazing.

We headed to the hotel after dinner. I think Victoria, Allison and I were all in bed before 11:30, which is a record for us. Tomorrow we leave here and head off to our next adventure!

Next stop: Florence!
