I was so sad to leave Venice. We left early in the morning to head out to Milan, our last stop on this amazing trip. The bus ride felt long, but I fell asleep for most of it. We got a reservation to see the Duomo in Milan, so we had to leave much earlier than what we expected.
The group arrived in Milan close to our reservation time and met up with our guide, Simone. With his silver sequined bow tie raised up in the air, he led us through some of Milan towards the Duomo. The line was a bit populated for those who didn’t have a reservation, but since we did, we got to skip over that line anyway. Inside, we saw a beautiful Gothic church that I found more enjoyable than the other churches we saw. The main difference for my enjoyment was how many people were inside viewing it. Compared to every other place, this had a low volume of visitors.
After viewing the Duomo, we got a break for lunch. Simone led us to a calzone place, which was a good move. It was delicious. After that, Kelsey and I walked past all the stores we knew we couldn’t afford. We stopped along the way to grab gelato, but to our disappointment, it was freezer burnt.
We met back up with Simone, Matteo and our new guide, Serena. Simone led us through Milan once again with his bow tie in the air. He showed us the stock exchange building, some fascist designed buildings and a castle at the end of the tour. My favorite part was probably the middle finger statue right in front of the stock exchange building.
After the tour, we got on the bus, and Matteo said his goodbye to us. It was sad to say goodbye to him since we got so close with him within the past week and a half. We gave him a thank you card we all signed and said our last individual goodbyes when we have back our radios.
We had enough free time for me to reorganize my suitcase and take a well needed nap before dinner. We had another group dinner and headed home to go to bed.
