When I said the other day was the best night of sleep I’ve ever had in my life, I totally lied. Last night topped any sleep that I’ve ever had. Kelsey and I set no alarms and both agreed that we would get up when we naturally woke up because we were both so tired. And that ended up being around 11 a.m., and both of us got a shower to get ready to explore the city on our free day.

We decided to go get lunch first since we missed breakfast that morning. I ordered gnocchi and she ordered a strange vegetarian hamburger. While we were sitting there, we met a couple who was from Philadelphia, and the man was originally from Pittsburgh. We’re everywhere! We decided to grab some gelato after that since we haven’t kept up with my “one a day” goal. I got two fruity flavors and they tasted so refreshing compared to the warm weather.

We walked around the streets for a while with no plan in mind. We ended up stumbling upon the Galileo Museum and decided to go in since we both loved learning about Galileo in high school. In the museum, there were artifacts collected by the Medici family dating back to the 1400s. There was everything from astrolabes and telescopes. It was so interesting to read and see so much history. Kelsey and I talked a lot about how the US doesn’t have this type of history, meaning out history doesn’t date back that far. It’s so cool to see things that date back that far still in such good conditions when we in the U.S. can’t make something that lasts 50 years.

We finished at the museum and decided to get more gelato. This time I went with a more chocolatey flavor. We walked around a shopped a bit. I was able to look at (and buy!) a romper I was looking at yesterday as well as a touristy “Florence” t-shirt. We came back to the hotel to drop off our stuff and actually ended up taking a nap for a little bit. We woke up to Allison coming back into the room, and we realized how hungry we were. We grabbed some dinner at a restaurant not too far from the hostel. After dinner, Allison, Kelsey, Josh and I went to the American Diner that was right down the street because we all miss American food just slightly. We ordered mozzarella sticks and burgers with fries to share. We were just happy to see ketchup and ranch dressing. We stopped by the Irish pub across the street because we knew some people in our group were going to be there. We had a drink and talked with everyone there until it was pretty late. We all had a lot of fun with each other. I’m glad we all get along so well and can enjoy each other’s company!

Tomorrow, we head to Venice, which I’m soooo excited about.
