Today was a free day to explore. I chose to go to the Uffizi. I had a nice walk there and sat along the wall in the Piazza Della Signoria and enjoyed a (slightly salty) panini while I waited for my 12:15 entrance time.

The Birth of Venus

The work in the Uffizi was lovely. The most famous work was the Birth of Venus, but there were several other significant works as well.

Madonna & Child

Jesus wth St. John the Baptist

I really enjoyed the Madonna & Child paintings
as well as the works that featured huge canvases and highly detailed scenes. The sheer size of some of these works, as well as the gold relief and tiny attention to detail is overwhelming at times! There were several other unique pieces, like artwork that was two-sided or uniquely shaped pieces that once adorned the alters in Italian cathedrals. As a whole, I enjoyed the museum and I am glad I went!

After, I found a small pizza place to have some lunch and (Mother’s Day!) wine. I met up with the other grownups and we did a little shopping and gelato eating before returning to our hostel to get ready for dinner. Dinner was at a small place. I had roasted rosemary chicken and potatoes. It was excellent! A good final day in Florence.
