I was really excited to arrive in Florence, I had a friend who studied abroad here for a month and absolutely loved it. So my expectations were set pretty high. Florence has not disappointed yet.
Florence seemed to have such a different feel from Rome. Or at least what I saw of Rome. Florence feels vivacious and hip. I forget who but someone said Florence almost feels like Lawrenceville.
I was also really excited to get to Florence because my mom read a whole biography of Michaelangelo about a year ago and she loves him. She sent me a whole list of things she wanted me to see while I was in Italy. So far I’ve been able to see a good bit of them.
The statue of David is obviously on that list so I’m really glad our tour took us to see it. As exhausted as I was, it was still breathtaking. Also, someone wrote “David says hi” on the bathroom wall in the museum, so I couldn’t not take a picture of it.
Another thing I really love about Florence is the shops. I mean a lot of them are scammy leather shops or hokey trinket shops. But we managed to find a few really cute stores that have unique gifts. One store was a ceramic shop and the Italian lady who ran it was so nice. We definitely bought a lot there for ourselves and friends and family. Another gem is a stationary store that sold postcards that had cats dressed like Renaissance people and music boxes. Also this really cool old store sold sort of like pages from books as prints. But if any of my friends or family are reading this, expect to receive a gift from Florence.
