Our first day in Florence consisted started early. We left bright and early and rode the bus for about 3 hours until we got to Florence. We couldn’t get into our rooms yet, so we stored all of our stuff in a luggage room. From there, we left to walk around the area and get acquainted with the city. There were so many cute shops around, so it was very difficult to stay focused.

With some free time before our tour, we roamed the streets a bit and also went to grab something to eat. We decided on a food court, so that there would be options for everyone. After being crowded into this food court for way too long, it was time to move on and check out more shops. Many of the boutiques caught our eyes so we were stopping quite a bit. So many of them had unique clothing that wasn’t the typical stuff you’d find at the mall.

After some shopping around, we then met up with our tour guide and entered the Accademia to see David. I know I’ve mentioned this before, but it’s so crazy to see something in person that you’ve seen pictures of your whole life. To see this magnificent statue in front of us, to know that Michelangelo’s hands worked on what’s in front of you…it’s unreal.

Also, the statue was a lot larger than what I expected. I guess I’ve never thought about him big it is, or remembered hearing how tall. It’s massive though. I can’t even begin to imagine working on something of that size.

Once we left the Accademia, we continued on with our tour and learned about the city of Florence. Finding out small quirks about what makes each city so different is my favorite. I also still can’t get over the architecture of the buildings. I can’t fathom the labor that was put into building them and how they still look amazing.

After the tour ended, we went to have dinner. We went to a pizzeria and I was given a pie with sauce, garlic and basil…and I ate the whole thing. It was so good, the crust was charred, the sauce to crust ratio was perfect and it overall tasted amazing. I shamelessly ate the whole thing and was content with that decision.

Our next day in Florence is a free day, so stay tuned to see what I got into!
