Assisi, Italy
The city of Assisi is what I expected Rome to look like, with the cramped streets, orangey buildings, and enough pillars to hold up the whole of Italy. It’s a shame that we can only stay for one day because I’ve completely fallen in love with the environment.
I’ve always wondered what it’s like to live in a small town, being a Pittsburgh native. I don’t think I could do it, although the laid-back vibe of this city has put me in a tranquil state. There seems to be no rush, just gradual mornings into gradual nights. In a way, I can understand the comfort that living in the countryside brings people.
But still, I crave the hustle and bustle of a city like Rome.
Did I mention that I love Assisi? My vision of Italy has been fulfilled through the sights and landscapes that we witnessed today. Churches aren’t my thing, but staring out at the sky from atop the basilica was life-changing. From that view, I forgot all about my aches and pains and was solely focused the greenery. And that nevers happens (not a fan of nature).
We’ve only gone to two cities thus far, but I prefer Assisi over Rome one-hundred percent. Usually, I would never choose tradition over modernism, but I must say that I’m glad to be free of graffiti-littered streets and overpacked busses/trains.
Right now, I’m basking in repose, but with my luck, I’ll be an earthquake-stricken fresco by tomorrow.
