Today was our final morning in Roma. Everyone was exhausted getting on the bus, and I was not looking forward to a three-hour bus ride to Assisi. Pretty much everyone slept on the bus ride there, and we stopped at a rest stop to use the restrooms and continued the trek. We arrived in Assisi to beautiful views of all of the city. Even though I’ve never been there the city reminds me of Greece in a way where the bus can only go so far and then the rest of the way you have to walk.

The city was beautiful every little restaurant, shop, gelato shop we saw was special in its way. When we got to the city, we had probably the freest time we’ve had so far on this trip. A couple of my friends and I found a cute little garden inn type cafe, and we had some more gnocchi.

After lunch, we had an agenda gelato and souvenirs. I bought I light blue Italia sweatshirt and instead of gelato (Gelato Update: I had a cannoli). The cannoli was delicious although I believe cannolis are more of an Italian American thing, it was still amazing.

Then we walked around some more shops and came across an embroidery shop where a woman pulled me aside and asked my name, and I told her she then asked me to write it down when I did she pulled out a piece of paper and embroidered my name into it. At first, I was concerned that she was going to charge me for making this for me because I had been warned that they might do that. But she didn’t, and it was a refreshing surprise. After this, we met up with the rest of the group and continued on our tour of Assisi. We toured the Bascilla of St. Francis, but we couldn’t go into the church because it was closed, but we still got to see the outside. After the church, we went to a surprise wine and cheese tasting which was a lot of fun. Then we were off to dinner.

Dinner was at a cute little restaurant with a spiral staircase into the basement, and again we had a meal to remember. It was an appetizer of meats, bruschetta, and veggies, then we had truffle pasta which was also very good, but I couldn’t eat it all because I could feel another course coming on. The third course was a salad with some potatoes that tasted like french fries. This was probably the best meal I’ve had in Italy thus far, and Assisi is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been, and I’m happy we got to explore the city today. Assisi really is a hidden gem of Italy and I strongly suggest checking it out if you’re ever in Italy. Tomorrow we depart this beautiful city and continue our journey to Florence.

p.s. when I called my dad today and told him we were in Assisi he replied “A-Where” and I thought it was very funny so, thanks dad.
