As we hopped on the bus to leave for Assisi, it was a bittersweet departure from the lovely city of Roma. However, I was ready to leave the city for a little while and see how beautiful the countryside of Italy truly was.
I had heard so much about Assisi from classmates who were previously there and relatives who have previously been there as well. All who have been there before had described Assisi as “breathtaking” and “a different view of Italy.” I realized that most of our visits would be in cities, so I became exceptionally excited for a very unique and subtle atmosphere.
Walking around the beautiful town of Assisi today was nothing short of a dream. No matter where you looked, each aspect of the town was beyond picturesque. When looking over the hill that Assisi lied atop of, the view was absolutely breathtaking. You could see all of the small, Italian villages below. As I turned to talk to some of my friends, I kept telling them how much I thought I was in some sort of movie that was definitely not a close comparison to real life.
Wanting to capture all its beauty behind my camera, I realized that the pictures were not even doing it justice. Touring the Basilica of St. Francis and getting to explore on our own really made the day as good as it was. It was refreshing to have a break from media visits and the city life that we were used to in Rome. Writing this now, I am already dreading leaving this beautiful, quaint Italian town.
