Today we had two visits, the first to Art Attack, an Ad Agency. The second to La Repubblica, an Italian newspaper. Both had their interesting elements. The common thread at both though was that their staff really seemed to love their jobs.
The process and approach to advertising at Art Attack seemed different than other agencies. I believe the the resulting ads are much better because if it. La Repubblica has a really compelling collection of data driven stories. The stories they are doing include some really intricate interactive data visualizations. One particularly compelling story was to mark the 40th anniversary of the very public kidnapping of a prominent politician in Rome, Aldo Moro.
In between the visits we had a short amount of time to explore. We had been given some nice food by the folks at Art Attack so there really was only the need to have some gelato to supplement! Today’s flavors: biscotti & KitKat. —amazing!
We closed the day with a very wet adventure to Rome’s Steelers bar. It started with 6 of us… on the way, we got caught in a torrential downpour! The streets had ankle-deep water in some places. It got to the point where all you could do is laugh! I was lucky that I eventually got to use a bigger umbrella. One of the students temporarily traded with me because she was not super happy with the look of hers —haha. It kept me slightly drier… although, I think it might have actually been too late by then!
Fortunately we found the place without getting lost. Seven more of our group actually showed up while we were there. The owner took good care of us and even personally escorted us to a good place for dinner. It was definitely an adventure!
