Mamma Mia, what a day. I can’t even begin to describe to you the pain in my feet from today’s adventures. My phone says I’ve walked 10,331 steps, but I think I’ve walked many more. We started out our day at the Secretariat of Communication for the Vatican. The presentation was very informative and informational. Every media visit we go on we have designated student ambassadors who start the question asking as well as present the speakers with a gift at the end. Today I was a student ambassador which I quite enjoyed getting the opportunity to meet with these hugely successful people in their areas of expertise. Personally, I enjoyed what Alessandro Gisotti and Charlotte Smeds presentation about the Instagram and social media, they said that social media is the media of today and it’s crucial to have even though it wasn’t the easiest of transitions. After our media visit, we had a free hour for lunch. I enjoyed a salami sandwich (or at least what I thought was salami) but either way it was delicious. Then I bought an umbrella for today’s activities considering I was miserable yesterday without one. I also bought some souvenirs for some lucky family members. Before we knew it, it was time to take on the Vatican, but it started raining, at least we were going inside. We walked through the Vatican Museum and admired the statues and architecture of the buildings it was just outstanding. It makes me think of all of the time, effort, and precision that went into these works of art. Our next stop was the Sistine Chapel, and we weren’t allowed to take any photos or videos, and we couldn’t speak either. As I looked up at the ceiling, I was very concerned about running into people because I couldn’t take my eyes away from the beauty that was surrounding the room. The next part of the day was when I started to get cranky and hangry. Matteo took the broadcasting students out to dinner while our other tour guide, Andrea, took us back to the hotel. We waited for the first bus to take us back to the hotel for about 20-30 minutes and then shoved our way on to the nearly crowded bus and a few stops/near accidents later we find out we got on the wrong bus. Another 10 minutes waiting for the 2nd bus we finally felt like we were on track. Then we got off the bus and had to take a tram back to the hotel we missed the first one because it was super crowded but got on the second one even though it was super crowded. After being jostled around in the tram and guarding my purse with my life (fearful of pickpockets), we finally made it back to the hotel. If it weren’t for Andrea’s positive attitude and reassurance, I think I would have had a mental breakdown, sat on the road, and cried, but thankfully it never came to that. As we regrouped, we got a bottle of wine and some pizza and rested our feet. Hopefully, tomorrow will go a lot smoother as we prepare for more media visits. Gelato Update: we didn’t get any, the day was too stressful.
