As I settle into my slightly unstable bunk-top bed, let me recount for you our first day in The Eternal City.

After the longest flight of my life (literally) I was tired and bleary eyed but ready for adventure! An adventure that began with waiting in line for customs. Thrilling. Surprisingly there wasn’t any intense questioning like I had expected, and my group and I were free to go on our way.

We met up with our tour guide Matteo Troiani, and took a bus ride into the city.

Our amazing guide Matteo!

Matteo gave us a brief highlights history of the areas we passed as we headed to our first destination: The Trevi Fountain. I finally got to live out my Lizzie McGuire movie dreams! (Shoutout to Matteo for giving me his last Euro to throw into the fountain!)

My Paolo has yet to appear.

We then moved on to the Pantheon. I was mesmerized by the giant hole in the ceiling.

Our group broke for lunch and of course I had to hit up the gelato shop. I tried a one of a kind, panic-cause-you-didn’t-know-you-got-three-flavors combination of nutella, mango, and champagne flavored gelato. We checked out a place recommended by Matteo called Della Palma, which had over 150 flavors!

Finally it was back to the bus to check into our rooms and get ready for our group dinner. We enjoyed a four course meal at a restaurant called Ristorante da Massi. The Tiramisu was THE BEST dessert I’ve ever had.

After this long day, my feet are killing me. Here’s hoping that wish in the Trevi fountain will bring me an Italian boy to drive me around!

Until then, ciao!
