Our first day in Italy was an adventure. The flight was very long, and I didn’t sleep, but they didn’t lose my luggage which is always something that terrifies me whenever I fly. After we landed, we quickly got to sight-seeing driving by the Colosseum and Saint Paul’s Bascilia. Personally, the first couple hours in Italy were a trainwreck. I was shocked by the number of hecklers on the street trying to sell counterfeit items. When I was in France a couple of years ago, I never saw anyone trying to sell me anything. I think because Italy has so many immigrants and France seeks to regulate their immigrant problems as much as possible. As we walked around the Patheon, we struggled to find a place to eat and just ended up getting gelato. Towards the end of the bus tour, I could tell that the jet-lag was getting to everyone, especially me. I was exhausted, but I had to power through to beat my jet-lag. For our last meal of the day we dined at the Ristorante da Massi. We had pasta, an unidentified pig specimen (that turned out to be tasty), and tiramisu. Our waiter was very playful and teased me about not finishing my pasta and then told me I couldn’t have dessert, thankfully he was kidding. After I walked off my food baby, we settled into our room, and now I’m reflecting on the long day we’ve all had. Today was a struggle, and I’m glad it’s over so now I can start enjoying Italy and not be cranky that I’ve been up for 24+ hours.
