I’ve never been so thankful to wake up and get out of bed. And coming from someone who hates mornings, that’s saying something. Cots are quite uncomfortable and I definitely spent all night waking up afraid that my bed was going to break underneath me… again.
It was nice to hear at breakfast that I wasn’t the only one who had a cot issue.
Today, we traveled from just outside of Venice to Milan, the last city on our adventure through Italy! A three and a half hour drive on a bus got us there. Once in Milan, we met Simone, our local tour guide for the day.
Our group started out the tour with a tour of the famous Duomo, which is such a beautiful building. Like I’ve said in earlier posts, I’m not religious in any aspect. That being said, I can absolutely appreciate the work that has gone into the Duomo and places like it, from the architecture to the artwork.
After we exited, our group split for lunch, most of us heading to a place that Simone recommended, called Panificio Luini. I tried their panzerotti, filled with mozzarella and tomato, and it was delicious! We had a bit to explore on our own along with lunch before eventually meeting back up with the rest of the group.
We continued our tour throughout the downtown area of Milan. Simone pointed out so many interesting locations, like the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and the Sforza Castle.
Also, there’s a really interesting statue in the middle of the stock market area of the city. It’s called “The Finger.” There’s a lot of speculation as to what the true meaning behind it is, but it has become a part of Milan nonetheless.
After our tour, we headed to the hotel to check in and freshen up before heading out for dinner.
Today, we had to say goodbye to Matteo, our tour guide. It was sad, honestly. After spending the past week and a half with him, he was a part of our group dynamic. Matteo was super fun to be around once you got to know him. And to top it all off, he knew what he was talking about and was super informative throughout our time with him. Our group was really lucky to have him and we’re definitely gonna miss him.
Taking over in his place is Serena. She will be with us throughout the last few days of our tour, keeping us on time and accompanying us to media visits. Hopefully, she can handle this group. We shall see!
