We are on the final stretch of our trip: only three days are left in Milan. Today was probably the worst wake up call we could have asked for, especially after having some alarm in the hotel go off twice after midnight. Departure from the hotel was at 7:30 AM, and the best part about the situation was the plethora of fruit at breakfast.

Most of the three hour trip was a blur, as I slept for the first half of the ride. I still felt extremely groggy, so more coffee was in order. At one of the service stations, I ordered a crema al caffe, which turned out to be an espresso shot with chocolate sauce and whipped cream. I was expecting a bigger drink, like something you would order from Starbucks, but I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was.

Honestly, the service stations in Italy have really impressed me so far. The food seems to typically be of better quality than the fast food joints you see back home.

In the terms of walking tours, today’s was a pretty simple one. We met up with our guide Simone to first tour the Duomo di Milano. The Duomo is a popular destination in Milan and is extremely impossible to get a reservation for. We were lucky to get one, and the tour consisted of the church and the burial crypt of a saint.

The inside was beautiful! My favorite part had to be the stain glass windows. Each window was different and the colors ranged from bright purples and blues to more neutral colors.

Other stops on the tour included the Italian stock exchange building and the Sforza Castle. There is an extremely unusual statue in front of the stock exchange: a hand giving the middle finger. It’s called ‘Love’ and Simone said that the statue is open to interpretation of whoever views it.

Our tour ended in the afternoon so we were able to have a lengthy amount of time to relax before dinner. Normally I would’ve wanted to explore, but after ten days of being on the go, hanging in the hotel room was the way to go.

Gelato of the day: Mint chocolate chip and Vanilla Cookie.

It was the perfect treat after our dinner of pita bread, pasta, and french fries
