Assisi is 100% the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen. Whenever you picture in your mind what Italy looks like, Assisi is exactly that. Even the drive there was breathtaking.
We arrived and had free time to grab lunch and explore. Kelsey and I went to a small restaurant before walking the streets to look at small shops. Kelsey and I decided to take in the view towards the end of our time instead of shopping any more. I was perfectly content with looking over quite honestly the best view I’ve ever laid my eyes on.
We met up with the group again to take a walking tour of Assisi as well as the Basilica of St. Peter. In the Basilica, we heard more on the story of St. Peter and the story behind much o the artwork and artifacts on display. The tour of the Basilica was cut short because Angela Merkel was expected to be there to receive the Lamp of Peace the very next day.
The tours ended with a surprise: a wine and cheese tasting. We tasted 2 different types of cheeses with balsamic and 4 different types of wine. We walked to dinner that night at a restaurant not too far from the place we tasted the wine. The dinner was delicious, but I was so tired I could barely keep my eyes open.
After finishing dinner, our bus took us to our hotel room where we got checked in. Somehow, I was able to get to bed by 11:30, and got one of the best nights of sleep in my entire life. But I knew it would be cut way too soon as the wake up call for our next day was at 6:45 a.m. Yikes!
