Boy oh boy do I love Venice. I’ve always wanted to see the gorgeous sinking city, and it did not disappoint. I spent a lot of the day thinking about how different the Venetian lifestyle is from most other people. It boggles my mind that little boys grow up wanting to get their gondolier licenses instead of a normal drivers license. And that Venice is just about 118 islands connected by bridges, but you don’t even notice you’re crossing onto another island when you do.
Venice was so dreamy. During our tour I took a moment to stop, close my eyes, and breathe in the air of Venice. Sometimes I feel like I forget to stop and exist in the space I’m in. I think the smell of the air and the warmth of the breeze will stay in my mind forever.
For lunch we went to a small cafe and sat outside to eat. A couple of us got the famous Venetian spritz, because how could you not, and it was delicious. It was so good I ate the blood orange that was in the drink. Just another delicious thing I may not be able to consume in any other place in the world. I’ve had a lot of that on this trip.
It seemed everywhere you looked in Venice there was something beautiful or interesting. Between the bridges and the tiny alleyways, you just felt like you were somewhere special.
Speaking of special, that bookstore with all of the stray cats is my dream. I felt like I died and went to heaven. I could have spent hours there but alas, we did not have hours. However, while we were there I found a bunch of vintage posters of cities in Italy, I managed to find one for every city we went to so of course I bought them. I can’t wait to frame them, I think it’s such a unique way to commemorate the trip.
And the gondola ride, what a dream. We got to just sit and relax and have such a special experience. It felt like an amazing way to slow our brains down and enjoy Venice. Also our gondolier looked a little bit like David Beckham. So yeah, Venice was a dream.
