From the large city of Rome to the small town of Assisi, I didn’t know if it could get much better than what I had experienced in both of those special places. My oh my was I proven wrong on so many levels.
Spending most of the day on a walking tour of Florence, I was able to see and soak in so much all in one day. When taking my first glimpses of the city, I could already tell the differences between Florence and Rome. Although Florence definitely seemed smaller to the eye, the architecture was even different than that of Rome’s to a certain extent. Though the architecture may have been different, the city was still filled with so much rich history, like that of the capital city.
The biggest and most beautiful piece of architecture that caught my eye was the Duomo. It was a gigantic building located right in downtown Florence. It added a significant amount of beauty and elegance to the already stunning city. As our tour guide was giving us history on so many monuments and buildings located in the city, we finally arrived at the Accademia to see the famous statue of David.
Once we entered into the building and saw David in far background, it was surreal. Again, seeing something in magazines, in the news, on the web, etc. is so much different than actually being able to see it in person. I was completely mesmerized by the insane detail of this statue and realized how gifted Michelangelo truly was. The intricate detail of the muscles and the way the body of the statue stood made the ancient statue come to life.
