This morning we left Assisi and headed for Florence. I was sad to leave Assisi. Assisi was what I thought Rome was going to be like but in my opinion, Rome was dirty compared to Assisi and even Florence, but I’ll get to that later. Also, the night before we left our window open in our hotel room and the mosquitos were terrible I could hear them by my ear before I went to bed which was what bothered me the most. Some people had worse bites than I did but it still I had a lot of bug bites. The breakfast in Assisi was probably the best by far. I had bacon and a chocolate croissant. Delicious.

It was about a three-hour bus ride to Florence, but I slept most of the way which was good because I was tired. We stopped at a restroom for a pee-pee break (as our tour guide Matteo would say) and continued on our way.

We arrived in Florence and stopped at the Piazzale Michelangelo which had a view of all of Florence; it was stunning. We all got pictures, Snapchats, Instagram stories and went back on the bus. We headed to our hotel and put our things in a luggage room say we could enjoy the day in Florence.

Matteo told us about how Florence was famous for its leather and I was very excited. But he said to watch out for cheap leather and that you’ll know it’s cheap when the store owners give you a significant discount on items. We also got free time for lunch and shopping.

Some of my friends and I went out to lunch, and I was presented with a mountain of spaghetti and it was very overwhelming. Then we strolled along the market and bought some souvenirs. The smell of leather was flourishing on the streets of Florence, but I didn’t want to buy leather from a street salesperson because I wasn’t sure if it was real or not.

Then we met up with the rest of the group and began our walking tour of Florence. We started off by going to the Academy and seeing my friend David. He was stunning. I was so surprised by the amount of detail in his arm muscles and how much thought Michaenagelo put into all of his works of art, even the ones that were incomplete.

We walked through Florence and we were scouting out some of the shops that we might want to go to the next day (our only free day in Florence). There were more statues with beautiful detail, and there were lions for days.

We ended our walking tour of Florence by admiring the Duomo which is the cathedral in Florence. It was gorgeous, and the way the light was hitting it when we were there was stunning. Then our tour guide Matteo took us to a pizza place where we had margarita pizza and tiramisu (the food here keeps getting better and better). Then we walked back to our hotel and went to bed. Tomorrow is our free day in Florence, and I can’t wait to get into some shenanigans.
