It’s 10:00 here in Rome (4:00pm Pittsburgh time) and I’m already snuggled into my bed and more exhausted than I’ve been in a long time. I haven’t had more than one hour of sleep in the past 27 hours, and I’m pretty sure everyone can tell right away that I’m a tourist. However, the past 13 hours that we’ve been in Rome have been surreal and I’m still trying to grasp the fact that we’re actually here.
We landed in Rome around 9:30am after a long and exhausting night. We were sweaty, tired and ready to get to our tour bus to have our first look at Rome. After what seemed like another few hours, we were out of the airport and in our bus with our tour guide Matteo.
Our first photo-worthy stop was the Trevi Fountain. Once you finally pushed your way to the front to get a better look, it was breathtaking. You can see photos of it from every angle, any day of the year, but it still never compares to seeing it in person. The size and beauty of the Trevi Fountain is something you have to see to believe.
Soon after this, we were given some time to ourselves to explore and grab some lunch if we wanted to. Lindsey and I began scoping out all of the tiny restaurants and eateries around us. It seemed like every corner we turned, there was a new gelato place. We each found a shop that suited our tastebuds. I picked a watermelon sorbet that tasted like Jolly Rancher’s, but much fresher (obviously).
Once we were done exploring, we headed back to the bus and drove to our hotel. We checked in, freshened up a bit and met on the patio to go over some details as a class. The patio is the cutest area that I’m so excited to eat breakfast in tomorrow morning! As soon as I saw the Volkswagen bus, I knew I had to snap a photo. Is it time for espresso on the patio yet?
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s post where I’ll talk about our tour through the Colosseum, and talk (a lot) about the amazing vegan food I’ve had so far! Yes, you read that right. Vegan food in Italy. Ciao!
